I had shoulder surgery 11 years ago and because of nerve damage I’m unable to lift my left arm over my head. There is no pain but the limited range of motion led to anxiety, depression, and discouragement every time I see an exercise program with an exercise I can’t do, resulting in my not being active for 11 years.

Do you think you could tailor a beginner workout program that I would be able to do. I have avoided pools, beaches and my parents boat and haven’t taken my shirt off in for of people in 11 years.

I feel I’m approaching a point of no return and just wish I had my life back.

I have nerve damage in my left arm due to an injury when I was 22. I’m 33 now and the injury caused a lot of anxiety. I haven’t exercised much at all in the past 11 years and haven’t been comfortable in my skin or clothes in all that time. I avoid the beach and haven’t taken my shirt off in front of anyone since.

I’m a 5’7 male and weigh 160lbs so I’m not overweight but not athletic at all.

Curious to know if I’d still be able to build a physique with my limitations.

For the most part I can’t do any overhead exercises or incline type chest exercises so every time I see a workout video like this, I see an exercise I can’t do and the discouragement immediately sets in

Thanks for the info here. I’ve been doing dumbells about 3months. My issue is at the moment only have 10pnd set. Is it possible to get toned just with these if I increase reps? I don’t really see a difference in my body, my clothes fit a bit more comfy but I’m thinking I need to invest in heavier weight. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
